I was the same way!! I didn't use a tampon until after I was married and had a kid. From what my mom says, you have to be gentile but firm. The "hole it goes into is the vaginal opening. It's going to be tight, since you are a virgin. (I wish I was still one.) If you take your underwear off in teh bathroom, put one foot up on the toilet, kind of straddle (bend at the kness just a little) and put the tip of the tampon at the "biggest" opening. Then gently push on the applicator. It should fit right in. First time users should use the smallest kinf of tampons, my suggestion. The off brands are a little big and can hurt. They still hurt me. Also, I wouldn't get the perfumey ones either. Once the tampon's in there, pull on the string gently to make sure it's in place. It should be comfortable to walk around. It'll feel akward too. I have gotten to where I can just sit on the toilet, do my business and pop one in. Just take your time...don't be in a rush. I wish I could've gotten advice like this when I was younger. :) Let me know if you need anymore help. Shatfield06@yahoo.com :D

You can break your hymen just from exercising. Using tampons or breaking your hymen doesn't take away your virginity, having sex does. The tampon goes into the hole that you don't urinate from. It shouldn't be painful to use tampons. They can be a lot more convenient than pads. Just make sure to change them every 6-8 hours (at least) to prevent Toxic Shock Syndrome. If you are still uncomfortable about trying tampons than stick to pads.

There is only one place that is big enough to accept a tampon and that is your vagina. YOu will not break your hymen using a tampon as it has a hole in it. My daughter has used tampons since her second or third period. Since you are unfamiliar with your body print out a female body diagram and then take you hand mirror and look at you own body and identify all the female parts you see in the diagram on your body. Learn what your parts are and how they work. Learn what feels good to you for touch so that when you get married or ready to have sex you can tell your partner what feels good.

the hymen is very variable in extent. Almost always there is a hole in it large enough for a tampon to be inserted. If there is no hol e in the hymen the menstraul blood cannot come out - this is a rare problem. Check out your hymen and if there is a hole you can put in a tampon. If you can insert a finger past the hymen then you can put in a tamppon - if worried see a doctor

Ok, well relax cause there's only one hole it can go into. You'll notice if it's not the right one, trust me. Just because you use tampons and it might might break the hymen, it doesn't mean your not a virgin anymore. I say ask a girl friend or woman in your family who knows how to do this that you can ask how to properly do it. Either that or just study that little paper instruction thing the tampon box gives you.

I used tampons for a long time before I had my first sexual experience and they did not break my hymen. Start off with the small ones that come with a stick instead of a tube-they are easier to insert. And tampons are so much easier than pads.

You only have three openings down there. One is your anus, and if you attempt to put a tampon in there, you will be very aware of it very quickly, because it will be VERY uncomfortable. Another is your urethra, and frankly, a tampon would never ever fit in there. The final and only possible opening for a tampon is your vaginal opening.
The hymen is not a solid layer of tissue, it is more like a ring around the vaginal opening. It has an opening itself, which is fairly flexible. If it were not open, your menstrual flow (period) would not be able to leave your body - think about it. :) You can safely use tampons without tearing your hymen.
If in doubt, ask your doctor about this. He or she will confirm this information for you.
You can learn more about the construction of your hymen here:

Please note, there are photographs of the vagina on that link.

Putting in a tampon will not break the hymen. Tampons do not go in far enough. As for where to put it, it goes in the hole the blood is coming out not the one you poop out of. Good luck and relax.

I was really scared too but if you use the tampax junior lite tampons they are really small. When you get more comfortable with them you can go up to a bigger tampon size. Most tampon boxes will come with diagrams and instructions so you can get an idea how to do it. But belive me, they are much, much easier than pads because they arent as messy and you feel cleaner. Also, you can do more athletic activities and go swimming with them. I hope I've helped you, Good luck!

Sarah, you need to be talking to your mom about this! Why are you afraid of breaking your hymen? That is something that can happen from something as simple as horseback riding. It doesn't mean that you aren't a virgin. And who is going to be checking to make sure that your hymen is intact anyways?
