it makes me sick! the music is promoting violence and it is worst of all it is disparaging towards women. i was in britian last week visiting family and they labeled rap music "american music". violent and sexist music is what we are known for outside this country. i am not being racist, i am being realist. and also, the media connected the columbine disaster to rock music yet they never connect the usually everyday shooting in "da hood" with rap music. I kind of feel alone with my feelings, does anybody agree with me? again this has nothing to do with skin color. do you think this fad will pass in the near future?

I will answer this one by one, so bare with me...

* Why does rap dominate the music industry?
You can blame those guys in the music industry that will do anything and everything for money. They're the one who take the Rap (and any other musical genre) into comercialisme for their own profit...

* Do you think this fad will pass in the near future?
Yes it will, as other music genre that has been at the top of industry they will always fade away as soon as a new one come...

* Does anybody agree with you?
Some will say yes and some will say No

* Do I agree with you?
Yes and No...
there are alot of thing that works here (in this case of Rap music), so someway i do agree with you but someother way i don't... I will explain it below...

# Other things that you didn't really ask, but i will try to ease you...
(I'm not trying to discriminate here, i'm just trying to explain it logically, and i'm not offending anyone... so please don't get offended... peace)

* How Rap music was labeled as the "American Music"
Since the Rap was founded and created by the American-African in America, so it was labeled as American music, and there's also other kind of music that was labeled to be American music by the media, pers and common peoples

* Does rap really promoting violence, and disrimination?
At the beginning, the original idea was not at all.
Rap music's original idea was complains, about those awfull things done by the government and the discriminating peoples towards them, the black people in America.
The 1'st problem, you must know that the ***** first came (taken) to America, by the White people by slavery, but then after they're freed, offcoure most of them are poor, and most of the poor people doesn't educated well, the same thing happends everywhere in the world, including in my country.
And ofcourse a family with poor education will have a poor attitude (including sexist), and a very bad language (violences words), so what they're creating was always imbued with there culture (of the poor).
the 2'nd problem was again, the industry people that think that those things are easy to sell because it will interest most of the common people (well, most of the people are poor, so they will ofcourse like it).
the 3'rd problem are that most of the common people (that doesn't really studied art-culture-aesthetic-philosophy) by their own perception have their own thought and judge mistakenly...

* Why do the media connect bad things to Rock not Rap?
because the Rap still sells, while Rock fans are fading...
(Again) The Industry people will take the best opurtunity for money...

Hope this help
Bless You

I don't believe that Rap is dominating anything other than a few stations. If you were overseas, and you saw that Rap was being labeled as "American music" then you should have given a response that it is only a segement of a genre.
That would be the same as saying that the Sex Pistols were "British Music"...Britian has put out more than one band and America has put out more than one genre.

yeah rap isnt great its just popular for moronic reasons (as is lots of music). and NO im not even worried about the songs that promote violence or belittle women thats not an issue with me.

Not everyone that listens to rap is dumb but lots of ppl like it and disregard real music that has lots of melodies and takes lots of talent (and im not saying rappers cant have talent either some put together some good songs)

but truth is (and this isnt a racist statement) black ppl listen to rap and thats quite a majority of the sales. also these dumb little teeny boppers like it cuz they think its cool for being mainstream or to subconsiously rebel or cuz they think they r little hot girls.

oh well. i like some rap but not much just like i like a little of lots of music genres

Ya, because emo rock love songs and metal songs about chainsaws and death are much better. I don't like the mainstream rap either because it doesn't show the better side of the genre, but currently almost all music in the mainstream sucks. Rap isn't a fad, so you don't have to like it, but you should judge it fairly unless you want people like me judging rock based on fall out boy and my chemical romance.

I wouldnt go so far as to say that rap music is the cause of societies problems....yes, some of the lyrics are just dumb but others portray societies problems. Either way...I just can't listen to rap music cuz it's not my style and I'm not a gangster.
Heres a good joke: Music is like candy, you throw out the wrappers.

I don't think that is so
out of all the radio stations there are, what are the percentage of stations that play rap the majority of the time?
I think it's actually a fairly narrow market field.

its true, the only reason it dominates the music industry is because there is so much of the crap out there to sell, plus millions of white kids in America think its kool so they all go out and buy it as well.
