There are many examples but the one that comes to the top of my mind is FDR in his creation of the New Deal that saved this country from becoming a 3rd world country.

The New Deal was the name of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's legislative agenda for rescuing the United States from the Great Depression. It was widely believed that the depression was caused by the inherent instability of the market and that government intervention was necessary to rationalize and stabilize the economy.

I think Regan's speech after the Challenger explosion was a clear beacon of hope. While that was not a great moment in history the speech touched the hearts of most Americans.

Weather you liked Reagan or you hate him there is really little room for debate that he had an uncanny ability to relate to the average American and he always spoke to the hopes and dreams of the masses. His vision of a shining city on a hill was heartfelt and inspired many to believe in the potential of America.
