First of all, never stay in your vehicle. That is the worst thing that you could do. Secondly, do not try to outrun the tornado, especially by car. Automobiles are among the most dangerous shelters during a tornado.
The situation that you just explained is very rare. It will never happen to you. If it did though, consider yourself to be a very unlucky person.
In short, if there isn't any shelter around you and the tornado comes your way, just pray.

If there are no ditches or low areas try and figure out which direction the Tornado is moving. Go in the opposite direction of it. Always keep a close eye on it as Tornadoes can shift directions at any moment. Don't think a underpass is a safe zone, it's not! When a tornado goes over an overpass the wind pressure going underneath the overpass (where some people try to hide) is very strong and can either suck you out from there or collapse the overpass which may crush you. If you don't have time to go in the opposite direction don't stay in your car. If there is no building or ditches try to either find the lowest possible area and or out of the Tornadoes path lie on the ground and cover your head.

Okay so I live in Oklahoma on tornado alley! My house was almost hit by the F-5 tornado. I have always been told pull over and get out of your car. Find the lowest ground possible lay flat out covering your head with your hands! Don't ever hide under an overpass! That creates a suction much like a vaccum! I pray that you will never be in one! And never try to out run a tornado!

there was a tornado here in texas, that actually hit our house but our family was in the car. we noticed the wind change (I mean, it was scary, loud) so my dad pulled into the gas station, pointed the front of the car in (so the back of the van wsas facing towards the tornado) and it was only about 2 streets away when it hit. The van rocked, pulled the door open, we were screaming. I witnessed a car being pulled across the feild that seperated us and the tornado then it just stopped. everything was dark, no power, and we ran inside the gas station.
NEVER EVER get under your car. the car can flip over, it can even be picked up, then SLAMMED back down onto you. never under-estimate the power of a tornado. just pull over, lay in the grass or a small ditch and just hold on. it's gonna get loud, and wild, , you can hold onto the car (laying down, maybe hold the tire or something) but do not get under it.
the tree in out front yard was picked up, then carried onto the neighbors house. Our greenhouse and fireplace was three doors down. our deck... we never found it. fences were gone, people lost cars... them found them MILES away.
just be safe. if you have a jacket in the car, cover your head. try to remember to protect yourself.

That's a really tough question. Well the best thing you can do is try to out run until you find a ditch or a shelter. I know it's not the best option, but it's probably your only option. Note: Never ouut-run a tornado

You get out of the car and find the lowest lying area. If it is just flat, then get out, move away from the car and lay flat on the ground. Chances are your car is heavy enough to be picked up and really tossed around by the twister, you and your little body are less likely to be picked up.
Never get under an overpass. That is a bad idea. They collapse and you can get trapped.

I recently talked about this in school and my teacher said dont try to out run it and definitely don t hide under your car cuz if the tornado picks up the car it could just as easily drop it on top of you. And as many people said just pray.

If you are on a road with an overpass nearby, get out of your car, climb up as high as you can under the girder of the overpass. In other words, get up to as close as you can to get up under the road of the overpass. Or, I think if you see a low hill on the side of the road, go close to it, but at the bottom of the hill. That way you are down low. Take care.

You should try to find a safe place but take evasive action by moving in right angles away from the direction the storm is moving.
