I'm with you on that, except for two names. Not that Eddie Van Halen isn't good, but he was nowhere near as inovative as most of the guitarists on that list. Jimi Hendrix was better with a whammy bar and Angus and Carlos were better at hammer-on/pull-offs. Heck, he doesn't even play slide! Same thing for SRV. He was good, no denying, but to be honest, he was basically a Hendrix imitator. I would move Slash and David Gilmour down a few pegs too, but otherwise I would agree.

Personally I'm in favor of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Angus Young. Here is a name for you, Jerry Cantrell From Alice In Chains. As many shows as I've seen, I recently seen AIC in concert and I have never seen a guitarist so loved by a crowd.

I love the Jar Of Flies for many reasons, and not going to go into why because I don't want to bore you with my corny reasons. Some of the stuff I've heard from him can match some of the best.

I agree with most of your list, especially Hendrix at #1. I don't think I'd place Garcia that high though. One person I think is WAY underrated is the Edge from U2. He has to be a top 20 guy. He created the signature "guitar echo" sound that no one before was doing. B.B. King is another. Some guys who aren't top 20, but deserve consideration are Brian May(Queen), Kirk Hammett(Metallica), Thom Morello(Rage, Audioslave), Kim Thayil(Soundgarden), and John Frusciante(Chili Peppers).

i'd likely agree and bypass with Jeff Beck. I went to the Ronnie Lane benefit live performance decrease back in 80 3' which featured Beck, Clapton, and web page and that i imagine Jeff Beck stole the tutor. no longer a small feat via any skill. Nick Jonas has mastered the stay air guitar performance. I provide him credit for that.

Why so many?
I would list it as:
Eric Clapton
David Gilmore
Duane Allman
Dickey Betts
and
Jimi Hendrix

I list them in that order for the amount of their soul that each one put into their work.
It is a shame that the best artists like Hendrix can't control the demons that go with being at the top
