At this moment(overall) - Ricky Ponting
Past decade- Sachin Tendulkar
ODI's - Sachin Tendulkar
Tests - Don Bradman
ALL TIME(both tests & ODI)- SACHIN TENDULKAR

There are phases in a batsman's career:

1. SACHIN has been regarded as the best since 1994 and he has sustained his performance. Sachin peaked when he was 20 in 1994.

2. Ponting peaked in 2005 when he was 31. It remains to be seen how long can he sustain his performance considering he is 33 now.

3. Brian Lara was never the greatest in ODI's and he will never be. He is just regular in ODI's. In tests he is a great but the greatest is Bradman.

So considering both ODI's and Tests SACHIN TENDULKAR is the greatest batsman of all time.

hi,
I think it is very hard to judge the single best batsman in the world i think brian lara ,sachin tendulkar & ricky ponting are the greatest batsman of all time and they have been winning matches for their respective teams and making there mark and the presence to be felt on the cricket fields all aroun the world, but in recent past ricky ponting has been out of the australian side and australia is surely not gonna win the world championship this time i think in my opinion Saurav Ganguly the maharaja and the king of comeback can create some kind of blunder in the world cup India's best Dhoni, Dravid,GANGULY and Yuvraj so guys lets celebrate cricket this month!!!!!
Cheers,
Abhishek.

Rahul Dravid is the best batsman of today's cricket. He is mentally very tough. He is the most technical batsman. Heplays according to the situation and has won many matches for India.

Ricky Ponting

ummm.........
Hard 1
cause every player has different styles of playing
best shots - MS dhoni
most hundreds- Sachin
Most Runs- Sachin
Most double hundreds- Brian Lara
Best Ave.- Michael Hussey
most runs scored in a match- Brian Lara(test)
Most defensive- Rahul Dravid
Most reliable- Ricky Ponting

So there, but coming with records and all Sachin Tendulkar is the best followed by Brian Lara

But if u take all the above and take the ave. - I would go with Ricky ponting

So different players have different ways and play differently and also what people expects from them is different ( like strike rate, being a wall).

Though my favorite is Sourav dada

Yuvraj.
He can move any bowler to tears.
Bowlers are scared of him. This can be proved : The bowlers and the whole team are overjoyed when Yuvi gets out.
