Spine surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her Spine surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 25 % of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange spine surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as Spine and other orthopedic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

When you have an annular tear, it does make a weak area in the disc, so you could have a new disc herniation. Or it could be unrelated, at another level. How about if you do your own straight leg test?? Does it make the pain worse? Like pulling your knee up to your chest, then slowly extending the leg. If this makes your pain come back, then it would indicate a pressure on the nerve root. Good news is that 95% of folks with herniated discs get better without surgery. So hang in there, see your provider.

I'm feeling your pain. I went three years without being able to sit down without excruciating pain! You can do it, I did it. But it does suck! I was a college student so I had to get stand up desks, I couldn't drive and had to get rides from people who had vehicles that I could lay down in or ride the bus so I could stand, no eating at restaurants, the list goes on and on and most people have no idea how much it changes your life. You are right you cannot put your life on hold, but you can work out accommodations. I discovered on my own that if I walked a lot (came about naturally since it is non-sitting transportation) it lessened the pain to where I could sit some. By a lot, I mean I was walking 3-5 miles a day. I also bought bench type seats that I could sit on by balancing on my thighs. I was tested thoroughly and nothing else showed up and no other therapies made any different. In the end docs decided that it was a focal pain from fibromyalgia. I started treatment for fibromyalgia (I primarily credit walking and myofacial release therapy) and things got better. Eventually I was able to quit walking so much without the pain coming back. In your case I would make sure I worked with a good chiropractor if you haven't already, get checked for fibromyalgia, and in the mean while walk and ice the area where the L4-L5 disc is (Ice reduces pain, reduces swelling, and increases blood flow to the area thus speeds healing. Just remember tissue can be damaged if it is iced to long (repeat as often as possible, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off). So it may not even be the bulged disc that is causing your problem. My husband had three back fusions and we learned from the first (which we had not choice on as his disc completely ruptured and his spinal cord was exposed and compromised) that with the after effects of such a surgery you want to make sure that the situation is dire before you resort to one. Even if I still wasn't able to sit I would work around it rather than get a fusion from what I saw him go through.

Blew out a disk a couple times and I know it is not fun ! I can't stand in one spot for no more than a minute, and have a large spot on my left thigh that stays numb. Sometimes I get a spot that feels like someone is holding a blow torch to me for a few seconds. Got prayed for and it has helped, but I'm very careful about how I lift or move but sometimes for no reason I will be in agonizing pain for a few days. This happened about 12 years ago. You may never get over this, but I wish you well......

Sorry to hear about your condition.

I've never heard of that particular problem. But I have a friend who had something similar and she had to undergo surgery. She went to India because the cost of the surgery over there was much less as compared to the US. She ended up saving over 75% even after paying for her PT, hospital stay, rehab, hotel, travel, etc.

She engaged the services of a medical tourism company called Healthbase at http://www.healthbase.com. They connected her to a medical team in India that helped answer her questions and clarify all her doubts even before she actually flew there. You might wanna check them out. They also have a lot of resources online that you may find useful.

Good luck!

this is very normal. I am also sure that the Otho MD might not be able to help. What did the most for me was the rehab . There are things that you can do with REALLY big rubber bands that can help it to slide back into place. Follow the exercises to the best of your ability & then try harder. It may be a little more slippage. Can your ortho see you any sooner. I was ambulanced to Loma Linda E R with the same problems so you might not want to wait to see your normal ortho
