Everyone who has ever quit has advise. Its not all the same. What works for me may not work for you.

The quitting part is easy - the hard part is to stay quit.

Figure out all the main reasons you have for quitting then select one or two of them. Like smoking leads to emphysema from which you end up dragging a bottle of oxygen around with you the rest of your life. Pretty picture isn't it.

Get that picture of yourself struggling with the oxygen, keep it sharp and close at hand. Every time you get the urge to smoke, think of your emphysema, think of your ball and chain of oxygen from which you will never escape. Decide - do you want this, do you want your smoke.

There are many other reasons why you want to stop smoking. There are few reasons to continue. But you know this. So just stick to it once you quit. There is no magic pill out there, just you and your will to quit. Just remember why you want to quit.

Every hour that goes by without a cigarette and another victory for you. Every day without a smoke is another victory for you. Every week, every month, every year, victory over smoking. It will get easier each smoke free period that passed.

And if you are like many others, you may start smoking again. When you are ready, just try again to quit, and again, and again. Sooner or later you will make it.

Good luck

I smoked for 30 years and quit 4 years ago. I chew the .... out of the nicotene gum, though. So, I can't say I'm not off that. It's expensive, but I psyched myself up into believing it'll work and it has. My doc knows, he'd rather have me do that than smoke. Don't think that's the best alternative, but it's better than smoking. I'd smoke today if it wasn't bad for me, but I still have kids to raise and g kids to see someday. So, even though I know it's the right thing to do, I still feel like I'd like to smoke. Won't go back though. Not until I'm 65 and all kids are well on their way! Then I'll light a big smoke in my house and put my feet up and drink a beer too!
