Do you think that the Duke player intentionally hit (punched) the UNC player or was he just trying to get to the basketball? The game was in the final seconds with UNC up by 13+ points.

My take on the whole thing is that the Duke player was not trying to hit Hansborough in the face. He was trying to get an advantage in chasing down the loose ball, and so he threw his elbow. That kind of thing happens all the time, but it usually doesn't result in broken noses. It was a foul, plain and simple, but I don't think Henderson was out to injure Hansborough.

I don't think that he intentionally gave Hansbrough a bloody nose. However I do think that he was intentionally trying to foul. I saw locker room interviews and the coaches' news conferences. Henderson said that Hansbrough got all three Duke players in the air and said that he (Henderson) was either going to block the shot or intentionally foul if he couldn't block the shot. I do think that coach K's remarks about "the situation wouldn't have occurred if Williams would have taken out his starters" was completely out of line because he still had Scheyer and Nelson on the floor which both started the game for Duke and Henderson is earning his spot as a starter. He did intentionally foul Hansbrough extremely hard, but didn't intentionally give him a bloody nose in my eyes.

Henderson didn't touch the ball........he definitely touched Hansbrough.

Henderson's arm swing was way to wide to be trying to block a ball. Who swings down to the floor to tip a ball around the rim? I think he swatted at the ball but really didn't care if he hit anyone in the process.

Just as it's dangerous to run under an airborne player, it's dangerous to go into a play with a round house swing.

It was flagrant and uncalled for. ....righ out of Duke's play book. Beat a team...one way or another.

If Coach Chicken Lips thought the game was over and Hansbrough should have been out of the game then WHY was Duke still using a FULL COURT PRESS???? UNC needed ball handlers and experience on the court to get the ball down.

Why the full court press in a game you had already lost, Coach ChickenLips????? Why, huh? Why? You are a liar!

The remarks that Coach "K"ommerical made after the game was a clear indication that the lack of class starts with the coach. This kid - Henderson - had plenty of class prior to going under Coach K. He is good friends with UNC's Ellington - as they went to high school together. In fact, Henderson considered going to Carolina because of Ellington, and changed his mind when Carolina signed another big recruit, knowing he wouldn't get the playing time he could elsewhere.
The media grabs ahold of a top story like the Duke Lacrosse players and calls out their lack of class...but honestly, this incident was worse than the Lacrosse thing, because those guys may have been wrongfully accused. This incident happened in front of all of us, and the guy still hasnt appologized for it, or achknowledged doing any wrong.
Henderson referred to Hansbrough as "the kid"...?...Henderson should step back a little and realize that Tyler is a year older than him, and 15 years more mature. This "Kid" is on his way to an NBA career - where-as Henderson is going to have to rebuild his family name. Henderson, you should refeer to him as "Sir"!
IMO, the only way that Coach K can come out of this with some dignity is to suspend Henderson for the rest of the year...but I dont think that will ever happen.
On the other hand. Hansbrough has now went down in history as the toughest Heels player of all time...and maybe the toughest college player of all time. We will be seeing him hop up from the floor for many years to come in highlight reels and media advertising.

Yes I do think that he intentionally fouled Hansbrough. a) The ball was already deflected, probably bouncing back on the ground by the time the Duke player was up for the block/rebound and b) Since when do you block/rebound with your elbows?

As for why Tyler was out there when the game was decided? If Coach K didn't want Roy to have his starters in there, then perhaps Coach K should have pulled his. Well, the ones that didn't foul out that is. Duke was fouling and Coach Williams probably wanted kids out there that could handle the ball in presure. I'm not sure that Tyler would be out there for foul shooting reasons, but you never know.

It looked like a punch to me, because he really didn't turn his body around to much. He really just turned his arm really hard which makes me believe it was a punch. The announcers were "outraged" by the call, but I thought it was right. If Duke was playing anyone else, they may not have taken it as seriously. However, The refs for a big game like that know what they're doing and I believe they called it right.

i think from watching it it wasn't intentional to hurt him...but he may have swung a little harder than normal possibly trying for a hard foul...i've seen those things happen and if it goes wrong then ya get popped...tyler was pissed at first but who wouldn't be...he laughed it off later knowing that it was an accident

That wasn;t intentional, Henderson was just trying to be aggressive and get the ball. The real question is why was Hansborough in the game even though it was decided.
