I would just go up to your Coach and tell him that you feel more comfortable at being a reliever then a starting pitcher but you still want to help your team win every game that you can.

your coach probably thinks you have the potential to be a successful starter. a lot of pitchers with one or two great pitches make good closers or relievers. sometimes it's a matter of stamina. either way, a good coach should try to utilize his best pitchers for as many innings as possible. you should give an honest effort to acquire another pitch, build stamina, and learn how two fool hitters the second and third time through the order. if you are unable or unsuccessful then perhaps you could be used as a reliever. most big league relievers were starters who didn't have the extra pitch or stamina. shoot for starting. look at Mariano Rivera. the best closer of all time, in my opinion. if he had another pitch besides a fast ball and cutter and was a little bigger i can guarantee he would have been starting and not closing. many starters (Dennis Eckersly), transition into closing to prolong there careers when they start to wear down. good luck and if you believe your coach knows what he is talking about, listen too him and be patient.

"Hey coach.. can you try me out as reliever in a few games? I think I pitch better as a reliever then as a starter." See what your coach has to say. He'll never know until you mention something!

If you want to go for the whole dramatic thing, put a small can of shaving cream in your mitt. Then, around the third inning of every game - squirt some around your mouth so you look like a rabid dog...this way, you can say "Hey, if you don't want me giving the opposition rabies - you better switch me to relief..."

Tell him that you want your arm to be around for college and possibly the majors. many pro starters today were relievers or even infielders in highschool and even college. Very few have been starters their entire careers.

This sounds like nerves to me,your coach probably sees something in you that you fail to recognize.Being a starter is a honor that you should run with and prepare yourself as such

you dont ask, you tell: "Listen guy I don't wanna pitch for you as a starter anymore cuz they'res no pressure on me when I start." Then tell him you perform better under pressure and thats not what she said.
