Lithium ion batteries, no matter how well you treat them, have a finite lifespan. After about two years ( from manufacture date) the battery no longer holds a charge and needs to be replaced. Which is why I only buy mp3 players with replaceable batteries.

I have a 512 mp3 player with internal Li-ion battery that died and I can't get a replacement for it. I don't make that mistake anymore.

Most mp3 players use rechargeable batteries like lithium ion or lithium ion polymer, etc. The life span of some rechargeable batteries depends on the charge/discharge cycles. Lithium ion batteries' life span however, also depends on its time of manufacturing (shelf life). 1 or 2 years is probably the average time where rechargeable batteries tend to be unreliable.

Like mobile phones and computers, mp3 players will probably evolve very quickly over the years. What may be a cool mp3 player today may be obsolete next year or the next 2 years. By then, I don't think you'll be worrying about the deteriorating battery of your current mp3 player. You'd probably be thinking of getting that new cool mp3 player as a replacement.

Well it depends on what type of battery it is. Cheap Rechargeable Batteries tend to have problems in 2 years. Good Batteries like the ipod's have to be replaced every 4-6 years. You should buy an ipod If you don't want to be always replacing the batteries.

i have had my video ipod for over a year now. i havent had any problems i just keep it charged at much as i can. when im watching videos i have it plugged in, and when im listening to music the battery lasts pretty long. so if it needs charging i just plug it in. youll wanna get a car/wall charger for whatever you get. that way youll always be safe no matter what. but i wouldnt let the battery be the decision maker for you. most are built to last multiple years.
