our pc crashed and we had to reload everything and since then the screen is so dark i cant see a lot of my pics sent via e-mails etc.iam a fairly new pc user and just dont know where else to look for answers,so if someone could please tell me what i have to go into to brighten things up again that would be great.

Hmmm...Sounds like your video card took a crap. Do you have a laptop? If so try hooking the monitor to the laptop, if the screen comes up fine on the laptop after hooking up then it is your video card if the monitor screen comes up all dark again it's your monitor. Hope this helps.

Did you install the drivers for your video card? If not, that'll help, if so, most have their own settings independant of the monitor itself that'll be good to lighten the display.
You may also want to look at gagma, contrast and RGB levels.
Gamma is the amount of white light your computer screen puts out (Or just how intence the output is) Contrast raises or lowers the differances between the lightest and darkest part of your screen. RGB levels are expert only, allowing you to mess with coour balance.
Try each one of these separately, (with the rest set to default) to see what they do, and if they help.

If your monitor is older, it could be just dying..... you should try troubleshooting by connecting a different monitor (whatever) to see what kind of picture you get. It sounds like it could be the monitor....

there r three things to do.
First degauss ur monitor ..
Second reinstall ur graphic drivers ..
Third adjust ur monitor's display colours from display properties ..
If these r not working at all then it is problem of ur monitor's condensor.

you have to go through the options on your monitor and there is a spot to select contrast/brightness..

well your screen may be going out,it could be like factory defect if its new or it could just be the settings its hard to tell without being able to see it
