I am in ok shape. I play hockey in the winter and usually spring, but I want to try something else that is less expensive for the spring/summer. I think softball would be fun but i have never played before. Do places offer beginner leagues for my age? I live in Rochester, Michigan. How would i find a inexpensive beginner league? Also would i need to buy lots of equipment? Because that would defeat the purpose!

Check out your city or county recreation program. Most all of them run multiple softball leagues. The cost is usually around $40-60 for a player's share of a league fee, but sometimes a team has a sponsor pick up a lot of that cost.

You could choose to play in a women's league , a co-ed league, or both. I've played & umpired many years, & in my opinion the level of competition would be more challenging w a women's league team. Most co-ed leagues are pretty casual , tho still highly competitive.

You may only find slo-pitch leagues available, which is what I'm referring to. High school & college women play fast pitch, but many areas don't have rec leagues offering fast pitch.

Feel free to email me w any other questions. I love the game!!

Good Luck!
