The "Dow" Is the 60 stocks that make up the Dow average./
They are supposed to be the top stocks trading on the US stock exchange
There are many other averages, like S & P 500, Russell 2000
Nasdaq Etc, But the dow is the elite of the American Market.
The average is adjusted for changes in the composite stock prices, continually, and Daily close is one measure of stock market health.
