I found the powered formula to be more convenient with my kids. I could put water in the bottles and powder in a separate container to take with me. If they needed a bottle while we were out then all I had to do was mix it together and shake well. At home, it made things so much easier as well. I used the nursery water from wal-mart, kept it at room temp., then all I had to do again was mix, shake well and go from there.

In NC, they give you ten cans a month. Even if you have to buy an extra one or two, it still saves a butt load of money. I prefer the powdered. The liquid is good if you're in a hurry to make bottles, you just pour it right out of the can and into the bottles then put it in the fridge. But if you don't use it all, you've wasted it. As far as the whole breastfeeding thing. Don't let people tell you that you are doing some disservice to your child by not breastfeeding. I was formula fed and I have 3 college degrees and always did well developmentally. Formula, while it is not the preferred choice, is just as good as long as your baby is being fed. If you have a medical problem that prevents you from breastfeeding, then I'm sorry. Formula will do just fine. My son is formula fed and he's perfect.
Have you called the local WIC office to see if you can get some of your questions answered? That would be the best way if the website isn't helping you. Babies are great whether bottle fed or breast fed. Have fun!

Powered is the best. I have used liquid and if not used right away it goes bad and sometimes baby doesnt drink enough to use it up before it goes bad. Formula is good for a while , I dont know how many cans they give you in nj in az they give 4 cans which will last about 3-4 months if not longer...

im not sure how many cans they will give you. I live in MA and i had an appointment with WIC on saturday but had to reschedual it for next week.
Everyone i have talked to said that powder is better. They told me that the liquid made their childrens stomache upset a lot and when they would spit up the stains were much worse with the liquid formula.

I think powdered formula has a longer shelf life. I was only on WIC a short time and I was breastfeeding, so I don't know how many they give you. Probably just enough to last one month, since that's how much other food they gave me.

I used powder formula because it was easier. Its easy to put a bottle with water in a diaper bag and when the baby is Hungary bam just mix with the powder and feed...with liquid you have to keep it refrigerated so if your out and about you have to find a way to warm it up.
I believe most states are 9 cans of powder per month and like 28 cans of liquid.

Powdered, here in KS you get 12. A dietitian will answer you questions before you get checks. I think the liquid is better but if you get powdered make it with baby water so they get the fluoride my doctor says that was best. Just so you know WIC will give you a breast pump if you need it. We don't get liquid here.

i like the powder b/c its more convinient and also i think the liquid is a waste b/c if you dont use it all by the time your suppose to it goes bad and with powder you cant waste to much.i live in cali. i get 9 cans of powder and i get at least one can left over for the time i go back to get more coupons.so id go with powder but you can start with one switch to the other and find out whats better for you the wic people dont mind if you dont like one and switch to the other its what your baby likes that they give

you get 9 12oz cans a month (powdered) but it may be different in your state because in KS, they do not offer liquid formula in WIC. i would get the powdered kind because you can make however much you want and not have to worry about the opened can of liquid stuff going bad. i just think its fresher, but maybe its just me.

I think the amount they "give" you is based upon the weight and age of your baby. Using the liquid allows you to make up a group of bottles at one time and store them in the refrigerator until needed. Using the powder allows you to make one or more bottles at a time and in more portable. Many times the amount you are "given" is less than what you want and you may have to (gulp) pay for some yourself if you run out before the end of the month. Did you and the co creator of the baby think about how you were going to afford to feed it before now?
