First, download and save to a folder the free AVG anti-virus program at the below link. Once that's done, disconnect from the internet and exit from your Norton anti-virus program. Then use the "Add/Remove Programs" choice from your control panel to remove the Norton anti-virus program.
Now, reconnect to the internet, and then install the AVG anti-virus program. It'll update itself and then run a complete virus check on your system. It will also periodically do a free update on your virus definitions for the program. No charges involved, and it works very well. Hope this helps.

Norton isn't that good, it makes your PC run slow, if you want a nice anti virus than you can get panda, popular anti virus are known by hackers worldwide and they come up with stuff to easily crack them. but panda is strong and popular in the USA. ( in respond to why is it free, they mess up your PC and make it run slow and than tells you you must buy Norton or whichever free software you have )

http://www.download.com/Norton-AntiVirus-8-0-Virus-Definitions/3000-2228_4-10130497.html
Now then when you take out the old and you have to also
go to search > all files and folders - type in file name
norton(version you had).when search ends delete those
files too before you download(conflict otherwise) then
go to rec bin deleted to and delete again or simply clear
recycle bin THEN download whatever
