I am doing research on the great depression. I need scholarly information on how the people in NYC lived during that period, especially their eating habits. Does anyone know where I can start my research. I need direction. Thanks

I would suggest you read "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck. While it doesn't concern the depression in New York it will certainly give you a sense of how desperate the times were. I agree with the poster who said check the library, the internet, and try get access to old newspaper archives.Keep in mind that newspapers may have changed names, merged or disolved so it may be a bit tricky to access some papers. You could also try contact a historical society in New York ,museums etc which may have further information.

Well, the first thing that came to my mind is the Libraries Newspaper Archives, available to view on screens...Ask for a specific year & the most popular news paper in NYC at the time...
In fact any Library should be able to offer assistance on the research you needing..=)
