Enzymes are catalysts that attach either to the active site or bind to another site that allow for a chemical reaction to occur at a faster rate. Once the catalyst binds to the substrate and altering the substrate's conformation, the other reactant(s) can then bind and allow the reaction to carry through to completion. Once the reaction is completed, the enzyme unlocks itself from the substrate and the concentration of the enzyme remains unaffected since it was not part of the actual reaction itself.

An enzyme has a specific shape that matches up to a specific substrate. They must match perfectly, like a puzzle (using the lock and key method), in order to function. The site in which they attach is known as the active site.

hopefully that makes more sense, but i'm not sure how to fit in conformation
