I believe it's hung in the bedroom. What does this mean?

Seeker, I already know about drying and preservation. I was curious to know if a flower upside-down meant anything to Wiccans, as upside-down symbols often have an opposite intent or meaning. In Victorian days, an upside-down rose was a sign of rejection. This may have absolutely no connection to magic. Just curious.

That someone thinks it's beautiful, and is drying it, to keep it around longer.

It has no symbolism in WitchCraft.

I've never seen this as a witchcraft symbol. I'm Wiccan, and I'd say someone simply wants to keep the rose. I hung flowers upside down long before I became Wiccan, just because hanging flowers upside down is the best way to preserve them.

If this person practiced witchcraft, I highly doubt they would hang a rose in their room for any magical reason. If they wanted the petals for a spell, they would not hang it up for all sorts of energy to come across it, or for it to be seen by questioning eyes.

While a rose has a great deal of symbolism attached to it, I don't believe that a rose hanging upside down has any specific magical significance. That really just sounds like someone is trying to preserve the flower by drying it.

That is not to say that the rose, once dried, will not be used to some sort of spell. It very well may be the case; however, the rose itself in the position you described doesn't sound like anything witchy.

If your friend is indeed a witch and has no problem sharing that knowledge with you then ask. She would have no problem letting you know the purpose. I do use roses in spellwork and rituals, but only fresh ones. I also dry them upside down because I also make my own pot pourri. One thing I would like to know is if Puck became good friends with Scott Cunningham before or after he died in 1993? Or is he just friends with his many books? Which, by the way, are very informative.

There could have been many reasons to be sure, don't know how Hyacinth and Green Witch could state that it would have no meaning.

Powers Associated: Love, Psychic Powers, Healing, Love Divination, Luck, Protection

Magical Uses:
Roses have long been used in love mixtures, owing to the flower's associations with the emotions. A chaplet of roses worn when performing love spells (remove the thorns), or a single rose in a vase on the Altar, are powerful love-magic aids. Rose water distilled from the petals is added to love baths. Rose hips (the fruit of the rose) are strung and worn as love-attracting beads.

A tea of rose buds drunk before sleep induces prophetic dreams. To discover their romantic future, women used to take three green rose leaves and name each for one of their lovers. The one that stayed green the longest answered the question of 'which one?'.

Rose petals and hips are also used in healing spells and mixtures, and a rose-water saturated cloth laid to the temples will relieve headache pain.

Roses are added to fast-luck mixtures and, when carried, act as personal protectorants.

Rose petals sprinkled around the house calm personal stress and household upheavals.

Roses planted in the garden attract fairies, and are said to grow best when stolen.
