You would be surprised. Regrettable, a lot more people support Bush than you think ... or else he would not have won the 2004 election.
- Ultra conservatives: People who oppose things like gay rights, abortion rights, etc. will always support the Republican side.
- People who want American to be more aggressive and the military. Although you will get the Democrat who does wage war ... more Republicans do so. Funding for the military has increased in the Bush regime back to Cold War levels.
- The wealthy "upper" class. Bush has repeatedly made tax cuts for them and lobbied to make them permanent.
- Oil corporations and other corporate executives. Republicans tend to give them generous tax cuts and other corporate welfare programs. Also, worker conditions and regulations are less strict under them. The Bush regime is also soft on human rights. They willingly import oil from human rights violators and support the use of slave labor to cut costs.

It's called freethinking. Unlike the lemmings on who support the Democratic Socialists' every word without question, those who support and like Bush use the brain they were given. They see the great things he has done, the economy, the fight against global terrrorism, and a just America. Even if he isn't a conservative, he has done a good job in many ways. Where he has fallen down is when he acts like a liberal.

I noticed even the Bush supporters who answered your question really didn't give you any definitive answer except for religious values. The president cannot change laws on abortion. Congress didn't make abortion legal. It was the supreme court and until a case comes up to cause it to overturn, it won't go away no matter who you vote for. Try voting for the good of your country instead of trumped up political divisive issues that are used to trick you into voting for someone who really doesn't have your best interests at heart.

The only reason I can figure is that people believe he is some kind of visionary who has some grand plan devised to protect the country in the future. The fact remains that he has done absolutely nothing to make the country a safer place and has worked to alienate the entire Arab world. I am scared to death for the future of the U.S. especially because Al-Qaeda has resurfaced as the face of terrorism in the world.

He is the President of the US. If you are a US citizen then he is your president too. I disagree with a lot of what President Bush has done (weak borders, spending like a drunken sailor, not ferreting out the corruption in congress, government waste) but I support him because we are in a time of war and it is vital that we win. If we don't the terrorists will come here and we will see things like suicide bombings and beheadings on American soil.

People operate under a psychological influence. In other words we tend to believe what we want to believe. That is why magicians can perform so called "magic."
In psychological conditions experts often take into consideration the nature vs. nurture combination to understand why people do the things they do.
From the natural perspective -Bush hits the fear button again and again as his communication agenda:
1. Be afraid of `angry aliens' (or terrorist) coming to your town and killing people you know.
2 Be afraid that the daily suicide bombing in the Middle East will come to America..
3. Be afraid of being impoverished by the evil oil empires raising gas prices because they do not like democracy.
4. Be afraid if we act week (un-war-willing) it will strengthen the enemy.
Nurture = what you have been taught as you have grown up.
1. The US is the Boss- toughest- most power full nation in the world, and those that appose us will be destroyed (like Germany and Japan in WW2)
2. The end justifies the means. Though there is a lot of negativity happening with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the out come will be a more stable world in the long run.
3. Good Church going - God believing leaders would not suddenly become evil and do acts of violence against their nature. Sometimes tough decisions have to be made, and it is not as important or a person to agree with a given decision at a given time, as it is to believe that the person making the decision shares the same faith and general core belies as you.
4.Finally, the judgment comes always in the future. All the pieces of the puzzle are not available to the average citizen- The president knows more details than we do ( though some of those details have been faked). Given the same information we might- i we are similar in character make the same decisions.. And the future may prove them to be correct.
However - independent thinkers might make a case for some obvious blunders by the President that would show him to be a criminal, irresponsible, irrational, puppet of a small group of businessmen that want to make money of of the war and the oil in Iraq. Such as (this is just a small part of a much longer list:)
1. Attacking without UN sanctions an independent autonomous nation that had shown no aggression to another nation.
2. The rewarding of No-Bid-Billion Dollar contracts to firms that had strong connections to the administration.
3. The knowing and ordering of violation of the Geneva Convention's rules on Torture.
4. The mishandling of Iraqi money that was initially held by the UN and then turned over to the US who lost 12 Billion of it.
5. The lack of willingness to seriously work diplomacy instead of military action costing the lives of thousands of American troops, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians and forcing Millions of Iraqis to be displaces into dying poverty.
6. The knowing misrepresentation of the truth (also called lying) again and again and again. in order to insulate his war program from popular criticism.
7. The use of US taxpayers money to fund fictitious propaganda campaigns against Americans.
8. The removal of basic civil rights (no charges, no trial, no sentence - just abusive imprisonment) for people arrested by our country- including Americans, Britain's, and Australians as well as Muslims.
9.The mis-use of US taxpayers money to fund `secret prisons' throughout Europe.
10. The allowance of top administration officials to CRIMINALLY release the name of an undercover CIA spy because they were mad at her husband.
11. The hiring of private militia with US taxpayer dollars to do non-regulated black -ops ( look up Blackwater on Google or Youtube for more info).
12. The sending in of too few troops who were not sufficiently trained, and not sufficiently equipped and not sufficiently supervised to have their lives `wasted' (quoting John McCain ).
13.By IGNORING much of what the independent council's Iraq Study Group report (which another poorly informed commenter suggested for good reading)And IGNORING Congress. .And IGNORING what the general public in the United States want.
The general public that support Bush do not follow the facts and rather prefer to watch American Idol and/or `24' and receive the twisted news perspective from brazenly bad informers such as FOX News and Rush Limbaugh.
To add a final note of hope - more and more people are angry, frustrated, feel lied to, mislead and are disillusioned by Bush than ever before.
Thanks for the question.

Because they're stupid. Like him.
Also, it takes a very strong person to admit to being "wrong." A lot of Bush supporters truthfully know that's he's basically evil and morally-corrupt, they just don't want to admit that they were wrong about him in the first place. Idiots.

because they are obviously dilusional in the mind and believe anything he says only to watch him do exactly what he wants because he dont have to worry about reelection. if you voted for bush, dont talk to me about high gas prices and how upset you were because you voted for him. also if you support the patriot act, then you should lose your voting rights because it ruins everything that america was built on as a FREE nation. have a nice day(oh theres more of where that came from!)

they agree with what he says. I personally don't like everything about him but some things he says and does I do like. he's an idiot but he's not really a bad guy you have to look at everything he does to really form an opinion.
