I see it referenced in movies and TV. My questions is why Maryland? I thought elope to Vegas would be the more obvious choice.

No, I mean there MUST be a reason why it is popular to elope in Maryland. Does Maryland not require a blood test? Do certain parts make it easier to get married? No waiting period? What?

It is referenced in Splash and Gilmore Girls. THose are th two I've noticed recently but other movies and TV shows have referenced to it.

In Maryland all you need is a license from the court house. I think some states ask for more, what they ask for, I don't know.

In Gilmore Girls Lorelai's referencing The Philadelphia Story which was set in the 1930s and eloping in Maryland was a thing back then because while places like New York and Philadelphia had waiting periods for marriage licenses, Maryland didn't.

You can marry in this place at the age of 16 without parental permission!

Maryland is the best state. It has it all beaches, Mountains, Cities(baltimore, Washington suburbs). Maryland is great...I love my Maryland.
