Food and drinks at places like Disneyland and other amusement parks as well as in the movie theatres are extremely expensive costing twice or even 3x sometimes. Why can't the government or the community do anything about it?

For some of those who posted answers saying it's ok to pay more:
In the case of Disneyland, the entrance fee itself + parking fee is already a lot of money + those corporate sponsorhips on different parts of the park, like Space Mountain - Presented by Fedex, Disney already makes a lot of money. They can also continue to charge a lot more for the souvenirs -- those items that cost pennies to produce but cost a lot more because the Mickey Mouse logo is printed on it---
But food and drinks, which are a necessity for families with little kids, should at least be more reasonable.
Maybe what they can do is at least lower the prices of healthy foods and drinks, but continue to charge more for the bad stuff...

You can have an effect on these prices by not purchasing them.
You can also contact the management and express your displeasure.

Amusement parks can charge as much as they want for tickets, food, drinks, and games. That's how they make their money. It's also how they pay for things such as paychecks, insurance, their bills, plus costs of new rides and games. It's called business and business is about making money. If they don't make the money, they don't get the business. But there are ways of avoiding the highly priced food and drinks. You can bring your own drinks if it's allowed by your local park, pack your lunch and keep it in a cooler until you're ready to eat, pack snacks, bring enough money with you to pay for the food and drinks, eat lunch outside of the park (most parks have some sort of restaurant near their locations), the list can go on. You can also save money on drinks by purchasing the large "collectors" cups that cost a lot on the initial purchase, but refills are discounted. And don't forget, if you have a season pass, most parks offer discounts on food, drinks, and merchandise for their members.

No there is not anything the government can do about food prices at amusement parks and movie theaters. I don't know exactly why amusement parks charge so much for their food and drinks but I can tell you that if movie theaters didn't charge so much for their food and drinks then we wouldn't have any movie theaters. Movie theaters don't make hardly anything off of ticket sales so they have to charge a lot for concessions to pay their employees, utility bills and make some kind of profit.

no the government can't and shouldn't do anything about these prices... but there is something you can do about it.... don't pay it... if no one was willing to pay that much than the prices would go down... pack a cooler and take it with you... many amusement parks have picnic areas... for the ones who don't leave it in your car... my family always takes our lunch with us... gives us a nice break... also you can do research before going to a perk and find out where the cheapest places to eat in the park are.... many parks have resteraunts that are cheeper than the others... if all else fails just eat a big breakfast and bring snacks :-)

The government has no control over price on items like this. Nor do we want them to have control either. The best bet is to just not go to these places. Write them letters stateing the resons you do not go also. Perhaps if enough people write and not pay the price to get in, they will drop thier prices. I doubt that it works but good luck.

well the amusement parks make a lot of their money overcharging you for food. Other than tickets, food and souvenir products are what makes bank. Not the governments fault, its the franchise and parks fault.

That's why we live in the USA. A business can charge what they feel is fair. Concession prices change for carnivals when they travel, depending on the type of neighborhood. Like the other guy said, if you go, bring $$$$.

If you plan on going to these places, make sure you have the money to do it. Based on the number of people that go to places like Disneyland, it doesn't appear they're too concerned with it. I go to Dland about twice a year...but I know what to expect and deal with it. If I couldn't afford it, I just wouldn't go.

We never buy meals at amusement park. We always bring snacks and lunch. If something is purchased it's minimal and considered a treat

They don't want to. Money talks. Price gouging is illegal. The govt. has never gone after amusement parks, ballparks, football stadiums, theaters, etc. for price gouging. They have gone after gas stations for price gouging during price spikes. Somebody has to be greasing some palms along the way.

What we need is less government intervention. Try putting a cooler with food and drinks in your car trunk. Then meet there at a prescribed time.
