High volume state-sponsored genocide began after the Wansee Conference in Jan. 1942 when the "Final Solution to the Jewish Question' was initiated. It ended in Nov. 1944 coinciding with Himmler's orders to destroy the crematoria at Auswitz. The Great Depression began in 1929 and ended in the late 30s. So the dates are a little off. Sure the Jews were persecuted before 1942 and many were killed, but the event we come to know as the holocaust (high-volume state-sponsored genocide) was after the depression....sorry.

The Great Depression began long before the Holocaust---1929 versus about 1940. However the seeds of Holocaust have been present for at least 1500 years. Mohammad tried to exterminate the Jews as part of his formation of his religion. Spain kicked them out their country in 1492. Most European countries blamed the Jews for the "Black Plague." Furthermore the United States was not without its black scars either. Both Henry Ford and George Kellog were extremely anti-Semitic. The United States government refused to let excapees from the holocaust who were leaving by ship land in the U.S. I think you will find that the Turks (Ottoman Empire) tried to exterminate the Jews around the start of the 20th Century.

The great depression was in the late 1920's. Partly as a result of this (research hyper inflation in Germany) the Nazi's came to power. They promised order to a german people disenchanted with the Weimar republic and also stabilized the economy in Germany by rearmarmament. The Great Depression affected the whole of the Western World, not just the USA.

The above answer is not technically correct. Though Hitler did blame the jews for the depression (amongst other things) this did not start the holocaust and there are many forms of debate about why the holocaust happened. For example, it is argued by many reputable historians that the holocaust happened due to the structure of the nazi party with each member trying to outdo each other to impress Hitler who had the ultimate say.
You might therefore argue that the holocaust actually started with an event known as Krystalnacht (i think that is the right spelling) which means night of glass and inolved the mass destruction of Jewish property. Events can be seen to have snowballed from here though true Nazi anti-semtism goes back to the early 1920's and before the Great depression and in the Weimar republics 'prosperous' years when Hitler was in prison and wrote Mein Kampf.

Bizarre thinking on your part, if you are trying to tie the two together. The GD started with the collapse of the stock market, partially because of too many people buying stocks on too large of a margin. The depression effectively was ending about the time we started helping Europe with their war in 1939, and was definitely over by the time we entered the war in 1941. The worst of the holocaust happened between 1942-1945. So what is your point??

We were just coming out of the Great Depression when the Holocaust started in 1935. We were out of the Great Depression long before the war started. Remember the Holocaust started before the war with the implemation of the Jewish Ghettos and them having to identify themselves by the Star of David on their clothing. That is when the Jewish community dates the start of the Holocaust.

Germany was also going through a depression. In fact, Germany's depression was much worse than the United States. Hitler blamed the Jews for the depression, among other things, thus starting the holocaust.
The Nazis persecution of the Jews and sending them to ghettos started way before 1942. The sending them to death camps may have started in 1942, but the holocaust started in the 1930's

I think you are date deprived. The Great Depression occurred from 1929 to the mid 30's, the Holocaust during the WW2 period 1939 to 1945. So's what's your point anyway?

The Great Depression started in 1929 Before Hitler had even come to power. It was over at the start of WWII. The start of the Holocaust.

It's even more odd owing to the fact that it wasn't. The Holocaust didn't start until about 1942. The depression ended in 1940 when we began supplying Europe with war materiel before Pearl Harbor.
