I am pretty sure i broke my left pinkie the other day playing ultimate frisbee. It is very swollen, I have minimal movement, and it is a weird purple color. Due to work and other obligations i have not yet seen a doctor. It has been a little over 24 hours since it happened and I was wondering if I could get perminant damage by waiting so long to see the doc. Also, is there anything I can do before I see someone.

Ouch, it might start getting messed up if you don't get it checked soon. For now, keep it iced every now and again and get the doctor to check it out as soon as possible. You might need one of those finger-casts. Also, be sure not to work it anymore than you have already.

It is best to have it looked at by a doctor. You may need some work done, or just placed in a splint, but you can't tell without an x-ray. Ice it to control the swelling, keep it elevated.

You could take ibuprofen for the pain and swelling and use a splint and wrap it with an ace bandage to keep it in place. Since you haven't had it looked at yet and had it set, it may heal crookedly. Better get it looked asap, hopefully sooner than any later.

tape the finger to the one next to it. keep it elevated as often as you can. use ice frequently and treat the pain/swelling with Advil or Alleve.
get to an urgent care for a xray.

In addition to the excellent above comments, please be aware that broken and/or dislocated fingers can still move or have limited function, so don't shrug it off!

Good luck.
