One should do a disk cleanup everyday and defrag two or three times a week if the computer is used moderately.
1. You may need to do a Disk Cleanup..and be sure you have all the boxes checked....
2. Defrafg your C drive or whatever is your main harddrive... Make sure you have selected the C Drive.... This is called a Disk Defragmenter...
For both go to :
Start...
programs..
accessories...
system tools..
Do this often...
3. Then go to your.. My Documents... Or wherever you keep you personal documents. Right click on each folder, select properties and see what size they are. When you add them up you might find that KBs turn into MBs and they turn into GBs real fast. So you may need to delete what you dont want and burn what you want to CDs. Music, Videos, High quality photos take up tons of space.
4. Some software can take up to 1/2 Gig or more of space. Go through your old software and remove any you are not using. Including any software products that may have come with your computer that you are not using. Check through your ..Add or remove programs in the control panel. I hope this helps some.
Good Luck

This should help stop un-necessary programs from starting, making your pc run better.
1) To begin with click on "start", then "run" and type "msconfig". Press ok. Click on "Startup" tab. Uncheck names of those programs there that you do not need at startup. (These settings are reversible, if you uncheck something and later decide that it is necessary at startup; you can always come back and change the settings again.) Click Apply. Click close. Click on restart to reboot the computer. After reboot system configuration message window appears. Check the box that says "do not display this again", and press ok to close the box. This will keep programs from starting that use up alot of space on the processor and the ram, the first ones to go for me are yahoo messenger, and msn messenger, dont uncheck any of your antivirus or firewall programs, these are programs you want to start with windows........

Firstly, try this:
Go through your computer and uninstall/delete your unwanted files, perform a disk defragmentation and disk cleanup (found in system tools under Accesories), delete your temporary internet files and cookies. Restart computer.
If trouble persists, make sure that you have a firewall and virus prevention software installed. If you don't, I reccomend Charter F-Secure. You might also want to try LI Utilities' 'Regitry Booster' software (http://www.liutilities.com/products/registrybooster/). It will repair any loose ends that your computer may have generated while being used. Good Luck!

Well to make my computer faster I usually do a disk cleanup. Go to start-programs-assesories-system tools and then disk cleanup. Also do a defragment. That always helps. If you have a lot of programs on your computer that you don't use anymore unistall them. Hope that helps.
