Patton was very controversial and so are the opinions of him. It's hard to say how he would be ranked.

Patton was the best general and or tank commander the us army ever saw. he introduced tanks in the us army. and now still they teach his tactics on every military school in and outside the us.
he also for saw the trouble that the Russians would be after ww2. and if he got all the supplies he asked for the war would be over months early er.

Patton was one of the greatest military strategists and one of the most effective leaders at inspiring men under his command to excel.

The combination allowed him to use relatively inferior equipment (the US tanks of WWII were dismally inferior to the Panzers) and defeat far superior forces.

Overall he would be among the top 10 military leaders our country ever had.

Unfortunately he was not good at diplomacy and repeatedly got in trouble for giving the correct advice in blunt terms.

I would place him within the top 5.
America has always had great men when we needed them.
He is only one of many that came out of that generation.

He's right up there. As a tactical commander, especially of armored troops, he may have been the U.S. Army's best. He did incur higher caualties among his troops, but caused more among the enemy he was fighting as well. I think he's top ten.

He is one of the highest; in my estimation. He was very much a loose cannon but he did achieve a level of greatness whilst serving his country.
