As a property manager I prefer the first month and deposit to be cash! After that a postal money order is always prefered. I will never accept a personal check for the deposit. I will always accept checks for rent payments up until the first bounced check. Than only cash and postal money orders will be accepted.

In my experience it has been a money order or certified check for the deposit, and checks, cash or money orders for rent.

I do know of one landlord/management company that takes credit cards, but they are the only I have have ever seen that does this.

Money orders and checks are what most rental offices will accept, I've never seen one that accepts cash. Some are skeptic about taking checks too. You would just have to see from the leasing office what payment methods they take.

Our apartment only requires a check. No cash, thought I believe they started letting credit cards be used instead of checks.

Generally a personal check is fine. If you bounce a check that may change.

Ask them. Usually, a check is fine unless it bounces, then they probably won't take one again.
