According to the electronic sign on Desert Inn road, Desert Inn will be shut down from Valley View to Paradise, Midnight to 4:00 a.m. on March 13th. I drive this road everyday, and yes, it is quite sad to literally see-through the hotel.

The Stardust officially closed at 12:00pm (Pacific Time) on November 1, 2006. It is scheduled for implosion on March 12, 2007. Later that year, construction will begin on Echelon Place (2010), which will replace The Stardust. I know, it's sad. boo hoo

I was there in August of last year, they had a scheduled demolition for last fall. It might already be gone, although I haven't heard of any news stories of it being imploded.
The Steve Wynn's Hotel is across the street from there, where the Desert Inn used to be. I was at the Desert Inn the year that was scheduled to be demolished ,and had front row seats for Don Rickles,at a nightclub table.
I am not anyone important ,but that is where they seated me,and it was a memorable experience for me that I will never forget to see a great comedian who knew all the greats .
The Desert Inn is also where Frank Sinatra Jr's orchestra used to play in the cabaret on the ground floor, and one evening I was privy to ejoying them practice at around 2 a.m.,when hardly anyone was around.
Yes it is sad to see all the old casinos get paved over.
The word out there in Vegas,is that Wynn's has a lot of "bling" but really no substance or atmosphere. All the atmosphere in Vegas from the "old" days ,seems to be constantly imploding.

little by skill of little, each and all the older resorts have become demolished. maximum vacationers perfer the flamboyant modern-day mega hotels these days. And places like stardust basically are doing adequate enterprise. I see Riveria and Tropicana getting taken down sometime interior the subsequent 10 years. Flamingo and Caesers are 2 of the old ones that could final an prolonged time nevertheless. they have controlled to maintain the resorts modern-day adequate to maintain the vacationers coming.

Now all rumors point to March 13 (Tuesday) at 2 or 2:30 am . I've booked a room for Monday night and will be making the 3 hour drive so I sure hope that this latest date is correct!

Yes mid-March 2007. I said goodbye to the Stardust in one last walk-through in late October 2006. (So sad, sniff sniff.) it ushered in the era of the modern hotel in Vegas and was quite a masterpiece in it's time. But as we know, "progress" rules!
