Find out what type transmission it is & google it. There is a lot of info available that will help you trouble shoot the problem. There is a series of electrical valves in the bottom of the transmission that regulate shifting. Rebuilt $1500.oo plus installation.

inside your transmission there are shift solenoids this is what control your gears the trans. control module could be faulty or the solenoids could be bad speed sensor could be bad this trans is electronically controlled but it has a safety where you can retain second gear to limp home now you have to have the ecu scanned for codes now im guessing but when it shifts into second gear you have to really get the rpms up or it starts off in second lack of acceleration? usually if the clutch packs go you go nowhere hope this helps

Go to a junkyard and get another one for $400 bucks out of a low mileage wrecked truck and have some grease monkey replace it for $200. Or take it to a transmission shop and pay $3200 for a rebuilt piece of crap.

If it never slipped or acted up before it went out I would suspect one of those electrical components went out,you will have to get it analyzed to find out what the problem is.

Could be limp mode...though Chrysler vehicles do that when something goes wrong with the transmission, don't know about Chevy.

Sounds like your clutch pack is bad. This is usaully the case when you loose reverse or overdrive.

i could only go away it 4x4 and nonetheless decrease it and placed "dubs" on it.that way you've something that seems reliable for the line yet even as the elements receives undesirable or you by threat slide off right into a muddy ditch you've some 4x4 caoabilities even concept it will be severe-based because its diminished!

drain fluid to see if any metal shavings.....or put magnet on drain pan and drain just a little fluid to see if any metal in it.
Maybe a problem with electronic sensors
