No Wizard of Oz is an ALLEROGRY. In other words it is a story that represents the past.

The author wanted the Wizard of Oz to symbolize the bad luck of the farmers during the Forgettable Presidents Era.

Dorothy symbolized a women who was pro active for the farmer’s benefits
Cowardly Lion symbolized William Jennings Bryan, the political man that spoke for the farmers although he wasn’t powerful his reputation grew.
The Tin Man symbolized the industry workers.
The Scarecrow symbolized the farmer.
Oz City symbolized the U.S. Treasury hence green. Oz himself symbolized the Treasurer
The yellow brick road was really the golden road which symbolized hard money; gold was the backup of the money instead of silver. In fact Dorothy’s shoes were not red, but silver symbolized soft money, silver that was plenty, and farmers could use it.
Witch of the North symbolized Washington D.C. where Justice was pure
Witch of the West symbolized the drought that the west suffered under
Flying Monkeys symbolized the African Americans, because they were the ones that suffered under the heat of the weather and of the people.
Munchkins symbolized the farmers suffering under the East trade and politics and the rich
Witch of the East symbolized the East trade and politics and also the rich
Toto was just a dog.

Everything else was just a tie in the story to make the story look fake, and just like a usual odd and yet fun story to tell. Yeah no drug influence whatsoever Well I hope this all worked out?

Yes. The Wicked Witch of the West makes red poppies grow through her crystal ball. Dorothy, Toto and the Lion fall asleep while running through the field. The Scarecrow and the Tin Man stay awake, I guess, because they don't have natural bodies like the others. The Good Witch saves them by making it snow, which apparently stops the power of the poppies.
Opium is made from poppies. It's a pretty obvious drug reference, if you ask me. It's pretty strange to have that reference in this story, but it's there.

Yes. They need to travel through the poppy fields (opium) which affects them.

No. Unless you take into account how the entire plot (Emerald cities, yellow brick roads, singing midgets, flying monkeys, etc.) reeks of a bad acid trip.
