It has to do with the theory that when objects move through space, that the space bends to fit the object. I was watching the discovery channel. But then how does the 1 in 12 people understand this make sense if in brief terms it is that simple.

I'm only 13 too. Unless I am incorrect that pretty easy to understand.
Even though I've heard the theory has to do with things such as when you are in a car going 50 and you throw a baseball 50 mph out that the ball will be going 100mph momentarily.

the theory that 50 + 50 = 100?

Yeh that theory about 2 + 2 equalling 4...

It's basic physics son.

Actually, relativity is even weirder than that. If you're in a car throwing a ball at 50 mph, you would see the ball leave the car at 50 mph. But a person standing behind the car would see the car going 50 mph, but would measure the ball going slightly slower than 100 mph, which doesn't make any sense according to everyday thinking. The reason, according to Einstein, was that time seems to move at a different rate for a person in the car than it does for a person standing still behind the car.
After a whole lot of calculations based on this principle, Einstein determined that energy is equivalent to mass X (speed of light squared). As an object accelerates close to the speed of light, more and more of its mass gets converted to energy.

In physics 50 + 50= 100 . But when you near the speed of light its different,186,000 mps + 186,000 mps = 186,000 mps. That is because the speed of light is the speed limit of the universe. Maybe 11 people out of 12 just don't even bother to try to understand! Jerald ?

I think if you read more about it you would understand it better; however, it is very good to know that a 13 year old knows so much.
