Can someone tell me the difference between these two Items. I have a grandson that is 3 yrs old. Is one more suited to his age group? How do these work exactly ?? Thanks

I have both items and 2,3 and 7 year year old sons. Both are excellent toys. I prefer the leapster. I found 2 used ones for the babies.

I prefer the leapster because...
more compact - great for car trips
You dont have to keep up with both a cartridge and a book
The books wear out with 3 kids tugging on them
The kids stay focused on the leapser better on car trips I dont know if it is the video game aspect or what but they will do the task (counting/sorting later add and divide or such to get to the games quite happily)

I note that He is a bit below the target age range, and there is more appropriate literature for the pad. I definitely would not but the my first leap pad. A friend has this and it is outgrown quickly.

The 3 y/olds favorite leapster cartridges are thomas, sponge bob and Dora, oh yes and Cars (big brother helps him with this one though). For the leap pad he likes the composers/music one best. Pooh bear is good too.

Leapsters are machines that allow children to play games--a la video games. Leap Pads are the ones that use books that they can click on with the special wand.

Go to leapfrog.com and you can see the difference. Then you can make the best decision on which system will work your your 3 year old grandson.
