don't use sound recorder, its pants for this type of thing.
Download Audacity for free:
http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/downloads.php
You will need to tweak your PC soundcard (you shouldn't need to use a microphone, see if you can find the mixer channel that has the sound from the movie on it...)
You can see stuff about the mixer at:
http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/DIY/pc_mic.htm
this deals with the mic, but play around with the channels and you should be able to record straight into Audacity direct from the movie...
Hope this helps

The program should be located in All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder

If it's not there, cross your finger and go to Windows Explorer and find sndrec32.exe in C:\Windows\System32\

If still no luck, try searching My Computer for "sndrec32.exe"

Good Luck!

Record your favorite TV shows: See page for instructions.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/using/tv/recordtv.mspx

Record what you’re watching while you’re watching it, or record something that is scheduled to air later. Here’s how to record TV shows with Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

C:\Windows\Sndrec32.exe (Windows 98 and ME)

You will need recording software and/or drivers for your sound hardware in Windows XP.
