on your Similac or Enfamil cans that you just bought, what is the expiration date on the can? I am curious as to how early in advance I can purchase formula for my upcoming baby :) Thanks ;)

The next time you go to the grocery store why don't you check the expiration date on formula yourself? I think you could probably buy early, but you don't want to buy a lot of formula because the kind you buy might not be the kind your baby will be able to drink.

My baby is on a formula study through the local med center. When we go to the center they give us 3 packs which have six cans in them, at a time. We would have 6 or 8 packs in stock at a time. They are normally good for up to a year if there is any thing that goes bad is just the calcium looses it potency. That is what the nurses have told us when we asked the same question.

The expiration date on my babies formula is Dec 2009 but if you are going to buy before your bub comes, I suggest just buying one, two at the most. I bought 6 cans when I was pregnant with number 2, ended up number 2 was a reflux baby and I had to put her on reflux formula.
Congrats and Goodluck!

I highly recommend that you NOT buy too many cans prior to baby's arrival. Not all babies are the same and just because you want to use a certain brand does not mean your baby is going to tolerate it.

My oldest daughter would not tolerate the Similac given to us in the hospital so when we got home we switched her to Carnation Good Start which she did great on. When my son was born, I was all set to use the Good Start again and thought he'd be okay with it. Boy, was I wrong. We ended up trying just about every brand on the market - including soy - before finally finding one he wouldn't throw up. When my youngest daughter was born, the Similac didn't agree with her either so we tried the Good Start again and she was fine.

I don't have the date on me, but i can tell you that the formula lasts for quite some time. I bought heaps of that and the premade stuff in the white bottle (simalac) and it's lasted from 8 months ago and is good until december of this year.

Babies go through formula so quickly, it wont matter :)

It lasts for atleast 2 years.(powdered) With my second baby, we had stocked up on formula. He wasn't big on bottles, for very long. He wanted food. We didn't go through it as fast as we thought we would. The unopened cans were still good when our 3rd son was born 17 months later.

I would wait till you have the baby. As far as I know most hospitals give you a welcome bag and they do include formula. You don't want to buy any now because you don't know which one your baby may need.

Hi

I know formula is expensive..buy you can write to the company and they will send you coupons..you can also look on the net.

I would wait until your baby is born..before you buy it...Ask family to get you gift cards ....to the supermarket..so you can buy it when the baby arives and you know what kind.

good luck!
