i have a ibm think pad that was giving to me but they put a password on it and dont remeber it if i remove the battrrary will it reset or do i need to install windows alloveragain.

Ask the person who gave it to you for the password. There are three possible places for a password, the BIOS, the hard drive and the operating system. If it is the BIOS you can remove the CMOS battery for 10 minutes (unplug it and remove the battery first), if it is on the hard drive it cannot be bypassed, and if it is on the OS there may be a way to bypass it depending on the OS.

The cmos battery will remove the password security in your bios. I don't really use passwords, so I do not know if that applies to the operating system password. However if you have a operationg system installation disk, just pop it in and reinstall your OS. If you do not have an OS disk, but do have a serial on your notebook, download an OS off a peer to peer network and use your serial. :)

I am in a similar situtation. I believe its my cmos battery as well. What does the battery look like????
