echolocation is the technique that the bat used to find the insect. It is called echolocation because it locates the food by using an echo. The bat shrieks and then listens for the shriek to be echoed off of its prey. If it hears the echo it goes in for the kill.

Most bats are insect eaters, also most bats use echolocation to "see" hear where other objects are located.(like bugs...Yummy!) They make a noise and the sound waves go out and then bounce off an object and back to the bat. That way they know where things are. Jerald

an insect eating bat is not echolocation, but they use echolocation to find their food.
