People will always judge you no matter what you do or say or look like. It makes me sick that people use God's name to spread hate! God loves everyone and it is not anyones job but God's to judge. Besides someone you know and love may be gay and to afraid to tell you if you display that level of hate. My friend commited suicide because his so called father disowned him after beating him, yelling "God hates fag's". God doesnt want that!! When will the human race ever evolve?

I am sorry for your loss. I agree with you that God loves everyone, and I reject anyone who spreads hate. Your friends father represents the so called Family that the religious right is fighting to save from us evil homosexuals, and yet in doing so they are going against the teachings of God. To answer your question, I think the US is becoming less tolerant of gay people, after decades of becoming more accepting. It is better than it was 40 years ago, but it is worse than it was 20 years ago. I have to believe that it will get better again. I am Canadian, and even here we still have homophobia, tho not nearly as deep as a lot of the world.
I get the sense that your friend died recently, and you are experiencing a lot of anger and pain right now. You may want to talk to a grief counsellor, suicide is especially tough to deal with, and such a senseless reason makes it worse. As to when the human race will evolve? I hope it is soon, because we have bigger problems to face than each other.

good luck to you,.

I think it is becoming better. There have always been gay people. We have been repressed for most of history.

The political issue of gay marriage has been one of the best things to happen to the gay community. It has brought the topic of homosexuality into all American homes. Granted, many people are strongly opposed. However, at least they are talking about it. Homosexuality is no longer such a taboo subject that is talked about only in hushed whispers. The more people are exposed, the less shocking and out of the norm it will be to them.

More and more people are finding it safe to "come out of the closet" they are seeing that there is power in numbers and that they don't have to suffer in dark silence.

I think that the US has a long, long way to go. But, I believe that I will see gay marriage legalized in my lifetime.
