You have ink, most printers have a little program that pops up telling you if you are out of ink. What you most likely have is a clogged print head on your black cartridge. The printer has a cleaning program to clear this. You will have to click on Start and look for a Dell program and rummage around until you find the cleaning portion. Or, you can remove the cartridge, and using a paper towel with a little bleach on it, wipe the bottom of the cartridge. No bleach, put about a half an inch of hot water in a cup, let the cartridge sit in it for a few minutes. Dry the cartridge, and then put it back in and print something. Chow

That sounds like it. If you run head cleaning on your Dell Printer and still get that problem, I would assume your ink is going out.

I see another answer about using ink level tracking on Dell printers. I don't recommend that at all. Dell is trying to use that ink level tracking so that people will buy their own cartridges. If you use a perfectly good Dell remanufactured cartridge for Dell Printer 720, then all of a sudden you get ink out prompt (when it is not). When you turn off that ink level tracking then you can print, but when it is on it does not let you print with anything but their own cartridges. I rather pay $20 per cartridge instead of $35 and do not use Dell printer ink level tracking.

Ughhh I think I have the same exact printer as you. IT SUCKS!!! It happens to me all the time! Their are two things you could do...1. buy new ink cartridges. 2. Open up the printer where the ink is and maybe blow on them or just take them out and put them back in. Hope that helps :)

I have the same printer. It was a free inticement to buy my last Dell system. It printed OK but the cartridges were so expensive that I finally relegated it to a big paper-weight and bought a Canon. Cartridges much cheaper and available fro Amazon w/free shipping.
