Thats a good question! Funny too! Just like this one: If an oranges were purple would they be called purples? Well I think the answer is: Flies were made to fly because walks would sound weird, and oranges were made orange because purples would be weird too. Everything has a reason, even the most stupidist question! And they are the most fun to answer! Have a great day! Peace out! I hope I helped you!

I don't know for sure, but your question reminded me of one time back in the '60's...my Dad was being buzzed by a fly that had gotten in the house(my Dad had had a few beers)he swatted and missed the pest a couple of times then he said,"I'm gonna catch you and pull your wings off, then let you walk outside and tell your friends out there what kind of a mean S.O.B. lives in here."...I never laughed so hard...

I think this belongs to the Philosophy section.

My opinion, btw: No, it lost its denominative feature, but it's still essentially a fly. "Fly" is a designation for certain insects. A wingless fly is still one of those insects. If it mated with another fly, it would produce flys.
