I wouldn't say people shouldn't have one at all because they are good in emergencies. . . but i agree, people are on it way to much, i see it in college all day long. I personally think that the people who talk all the time think they look important or maybe they can't stand to be by themselves and think!

I remember the good old days when you rang your friends from home after school. Or you mightn't touch the phone for days.
I have a cell-phone and I don't even know the phone number. I put $100-00 into it on the 1st February every year, and usually have $10-00 left in it.
I use mine for emergencies only.
There is nothing worse than driving along and discovering that the person holding up the line of traffic is chatting on the phone. Actually my boss rang me from his cell-phone while driving and then there was a loud noise, then s**t. Wrote-off the front of his very very old Triumph Convertible Car.
Actually in New Zealand (where I am) I think they are going to pass a law in Parliament to ban cell-phones while driving.
I agree with a lot of the people that answered your question ... they want to look important. My gosh they even walk around the streets in the lunch-break with ear phones in so they don't have to touch the phone.
I also have these friends ..... husband, wife and four kids. They all have cell-phones. In the supermarket they go their different ways, but text each other to find out what aisle the others are in. The youngest kid is 6.

my boyfriend doesn't own a cellphone and chooses not to. he believes that we've lived all this time without cell phones, and he'll be fine without one. with the exception of a few instances, he's right. he still has plenty of friends and has had no problems. texting is a more convenient form of a short phone call when you don't want to go through the hassle of talking. it's also great to send cute notes once in a while or a random text message to random people to make their day a little brighter. i'm a texting addict, by the way haha.

I don't understand it either. I don't text...I make very few calls. I basically use my cell only in the case of an emergency, or to let someone know where I am...etc. But I guess some people just like having giant cell phone bills and that must be why they talk on their cellphones so much.

It is very important to have a cell phone just in case of an emergency. Or, sometimes when you go somewhere by yourself and you feel uncomfortable, you may want to talk to a friend or family member to get some advice on something. Cell phones are very important communication devices for people all over the world.

They may be addicted to it. I don't know what people can do on that all day without getting bored. I have no clue of what they can find to do on the cell phone for that long. Cell phones are normally for sending and receiving calls, playing games, checking your voicemail, and sometimes text messaging. People can live their lives normally without a cell phone. You see so many people with their cell phones, talking to someone while they're driving. That's how they start accidents.

some people don't have house phones because it's too expensive, therefor cell phones are the only way to keep in contact with people.
others may be too busy to be at home and use the house phone to talk to others, they may contantly be on the run.
i however use my cell phone alot because i don't like to use my house phone, one other people pick up when i'm using it and two, a cell phone is just more private to me. i feel that i should run up my own bill and not my parents when they aren't the ones doing the talking. i text because when my friends are busy at work and aren't able to answer they can text me when they get the time.

Of course it's okay. Be an individual. It's certainly not necessary to be in constant contact with others. People have forgotten how to be alone. There's nothing more annoying than someone on their cell phone when they are checking out at a store talking and the clerk can't communicate with them. Cell phone users can be rude, to say the least.

Sure its okay, but now, having one is a social norm. Honestly it does keep you better in touch with your friends at the drop of a hat if you need to get to them. Picture phones, no need for digital cameras really if your not picky, you can just use the phone. And now with bluetooth technology applied to the phones, theres alot more you can do. Control a computer mouse with it and starting your car if you have the remote start installed.
