I have surfed all over the internet and all I can find is how to prepare your dog for a new baby. My situation is quite the opposite. I know the American Academy of Pediatrics suggest not to introduce a dog into your home until your child is 5 years, but I don't believe that. If you are actually watching your child nothing bad should come of it. We figure it would be best to get a dog while I’m not working. So the time is now. Thanks for the feedback!

My 1 year old loves my dogs. I have a 4 year old lab and 2 5 month old puppies left. My dog has a good temperment. I first held my son outside with me and let my dog sniff him and get used to him and watched my dog closely for any sign of dislike. We go out every day and play with the dogs, and my dog is used to him. I don't worry about my dog mauling him or anything, when my kid irritates the dog too much, the dog will walk off.

I think it's a great idea.
I assume you will get a nice dog, so it shouldn't be that hard.
The dog is moving into your house, so he will not see you or the baby as intruders. Dogs typically recognize babies as like puppies, and are not aggressive toward them. But if they do see a baby as a puppy, they may think of disciplining a naughty baby like a puppy, with a growl or a nip. Don't allow the dog to growl or snap at the child under any circumstances. It has to learn that we don't threaten humans. This will help prevent biting later.
And try to avoid the child accidentally hurting the dog. (Even at 6 months they can pull hair or grab a lip.)
Teach the child to be kind to the dog, and you should be fine.
