I just went to my friends wake today, and it was open casket. I really shouldnt have looked, but I thought I knew what I was going to see. I was SOOOO wrong. She got into a snowmobiling accident so she was really banged up even though she had the makeup stuff on... I cant get her face out of my head and it really scares me. SHE doesnt scare me, just how she looked in that casket. I can't sleep b/c of it. I have to go to school tomorrow and need to sleep, but every time I close my eyes I see her lifeless body again. Please help me find a way to fall asleep. I really need it.

You are processing the grief reaction. It's totally normal..denial, dis pair and resolution. Allow yourself to grieve and have no fear. Change the pictures (visualization). I go to Vermont to the top of a hill and see myself skiing down or just looking out over the view. You have many of those pictures in you mind...use them! Remember the wonderful experiences you had with you friend, and enjoy your life. You are still here.

Two ideas:
I find Benedryl to be something that is sedating. When my daughter died 3 months ago I did not sleep but an hour the first night and slept alright after that.

Pray and ask God to give comfort to the family and to give you peace. If God allows you to stay awake then use that time for prayer or find something useful to do with the time. View the extra time to pray as a gift you can give the family and not a disruption in your life. I found out later how many people told me about being up late and praying and how they felt it was taking some of our burden. I know it sounds crazy, but we were able to rest a whole lot better than I would have guessed we would. If God keeps you up, use the time well. God bless you.

Try to picture your friend the way she was before the accident. If this persist for long you may need to speak to someone to help you through this. Good luck.
