wow.... that is a lot of drama. as for the summons question yes it can still happen but it may take a longer time because sometimes they will put cases that may be more recent or more important ahead not saying that u your case is unimportant. He could've been arrested then released. but when my parents got divorced they never had a custody battle it was a fair agreement for both of them to see us equally. But anyway if present all of the evidence of the beating and the police reports and tell the judge you don't want your children to be around an abusive person they may consider .Also if you present his unstable state on his own such as his unemployment and his inability to pay his bills the judge may see how he is unstable. Furthermore the custodial parent first of all has a job and you have a job he doesn't. Second of all as you told he is abusive so he is an unfit father so you most likely will not lose your children

Head injuries bleed the most becuase of all of the blood vessels that are in the head. He really should see a doctor, but if you can't get him to do this, than just keep an eye on it and keep it clean using soap, water, peroxide and an antibacterial ointment. Hope it goes all right for him and gets better soon.

Sure, the ER would be best, especially if you think there might be associated brain injury (concussion).
Emergency home care? Shave the hair around the wound (or go wild and shave the whole head!). Liberally irrigate with saline solution, gently scrubbing as needed to remove any dirt, then possibly use some betadyne (1). Apply a non-stick gauze dressing to cover the open wound. Any direct pressure you can apply would be good. (1) There are arguments pro and con about whether to use betadyne or bacitracin on wounds, or nothing at all.
Head wounds often bleed profusely because of all the blood vessels sandwiched between the skull and skin, so don't freak. But if he took some aspirin for head pain, that would thin the blood and keep it from clotting. Also, if it's an open wound (not a cut or skin flap) it's harder for all that open surface to clot up.
Inspect wound and dressing tomorrow, checking for inflammation or infection. Be very gentle, do not disturb and scabbing. With all that skin removed, most of that area will likely be a bald spot once it's healed, depending on how deep the wound is. Anything you can do to prevent scarring is all to the good, so be gentle.
Again, ER would be better, or without insurance, a 24 hour clinic. But if you really can't, that's the best advice I can offer.
Good luck.
EDIT
Just Q - nice explanation. I was kind of taking the whole checking for concussion thing for granted.

Bleeding for that long is not good. Go to the ER no matter what. I know of a person who fell and cut their head open, didn't go to the ER and bled to death. Go to the ER now, don't worry about not having any insurance. Good Luck.

one of his veins was ruptured. this is characterized by slow bleeding. he needs to be treated immediately coz he might go into hypovolemic shock anytime due to loss of blood. apply pressure to the wound and monitor his pulse. if it increases and the intensity is weak, rush him to an er. he needs a blood transfusion or just a plasma expander to compensate the loss of blood.
