I have been married to my husband for 15 years and he has recently been having an affair with a lady from Mexico. I am caucasian. Should I have expected this or is this a non-racial issue? He told me not too long ago that he misses his language and culture but if you walked into our home you wouldn't know a white person lived there. I tried taking Spanish classes and he forbade it. I am really confused right now. What could I have done differently.

My husband wants to know what has been wrong with me the last couple of weeks. When he tells me I can go somewhere, I tell him "Of course I can" and "I will go when I am ready"! And I have been telling him he has a good woman. He likes to give compliments that have an edge like a sharp sword. He'll say I love you no matter what you weigh. I am about 20 lbs. overweight, I have lost five of it recently. But he used to tell me I was fat when we first got together and I believed him but looking at those pictures, I wasn't fat. Now I am getting mad and have realized that there isn't anything that you can do to keep your spouse from cheating. I gave alot of years to this man and I'm not perfect but I am a good woman, mother and wife. If any men out there are thinking about cheating on their wives, stop and look at what they already have. You might lose it. I'm still here in body but my heart is no longer his to hurt.

Hi, race has nothing to do with this, don't excuse him like that. The fact is he cheated, doesn't matter who the other woman is. He forbade you? you're his wife not his daughter, he's not in charge of you. Seems to me he didn't want you to learn for a reason. Maybe he can get away with secret conversations he doesn't want you to hear. Get rid! He's a louse.
Just thought I'd add that you seem to be right where he wants you. it's like you're already looking for reasons to justify his actions. Like him missing his culture, it's like you're putting yourself down for not providing everything he needs. I think you need to build up your confidence and self esteem. Learn to love yourself because he obviously doesn't. He's not an example of every hispanic man, he's just a bit of a knob!

Of course you should have expected it. It is well known that Mexican men who are married are also going to have a fling on the side.
You need to get out of it anyway, since you say he "forbade it." That is stupid - stand of yourself and quit being abused!
Oh yeah, I would have given a legitimate answer, but I was not of Hispanic Descent.
And, to answer your QUESTION (see ? title) - I am not sure if that question is for people of Hispanic Descent....

His race has nothing to do with it. He's just a cheater! I'm very sorry this happened to you. You should just leave and get on with your life. I wouldn't want to stay with a guy that has a mistress....but that's me. By the way, I'm Mexican and I wouldn't have taken any of his crap.
