i've always wondered if it is safe to get a manicure or pedicure work at a beauty saloon knowing they use the same tools for everybody there?

It is ALWAYS best to buy a good manicure set of your own and bring it to the salon.

The tools should be steralized in any reputable beauty shop, but regardless, a bloody instrument would have to get blood directly into an opne cut on your foot. A highly unlikely scenario. I don't think there are any documented cases of HIV transmission via this method. You're safe.

For transmission to occur, the equipment would had to have cut an HIV+ person recently, and their blood would had to have stayed wet on the equipment. HIV does not survive long outside of the human body. Then, if they were unsterilized, that blood would had to have entered your body. The chance that this chain of events happened is small.

You can't get HIV in a beauty salon.
They clean and sterilize the instruments after use.
The only ways you could get HIV are through sexual contact, exchange of body fluids, sharing dirty needles, or transfusion of infected blood. You won't encounter these things in a beauty salon.

It is best to check out the salon and their sterilization of their instruments in between customers. Any reputable salon will be happy to clean their tools for you if you are worried before they touch you.
