The pedal goes to the floor I hope it's the master cylinder and not the power brake booster! What do you think? 2002 Dodge Neon sxt

Could be low of fluid. The brakes will still work if the booster is bad. You have to push a lot harder. Brake systems are closed systems. If your fluid level is below minimum, your brakes need professional attention.

It is not the brake booster, which makes for a very hard to press pedal when it goes bad.

It could be the master cylinder or other things like air in the lines. Bleed the system completely to get all air out, check for leaks and if it still does that, suspect the MC.

Brake Pedal Goes To Floor

It might just be a broken brake line. I know that on my 99 hyundai, a brake caliper broke, and when I pressed the brake down, it went to the floor, I barely stopped, and bumped the car in front of me. Check your fluid level, and try bleeding the brakes. Check all along the brake lines, and look for any leaks. Also, I would assume that if it was the brake booster, you would hear (hate to sound vague) funny noises when you push the brake. When the master cyl when out on my 76 f100, it just felt like I had no brake fluid, and the pedal went all the way to the floor.

Have you checked your brake fluid level? SOunds like master cylinder though. If it was brake booster pedal would be hard to push.

Neither, it could be rusted lines w/ pinholes in them or you have blown wheel cylinders or bad brakeline hoses or calipers. If it were the power booster, I would be checking under the brake pedal for fluid but, that would be the last thing I would check, is the power booster. The master cylinder may have a bad gasket.

it may not be either, it could be air in you brake lines and you need to have them bled, it could also be a problem with you abs, but if it was one of those I would check the master cylinder first. If you are losing fluid and can't find a leak, check behind the master cylinder to see if your booster is wet or if any fluid got into the booster, if so then your booster may be bad.

if you are not loosing brake fluid then it is most likely the master cylinder . the brake booster would make brake petal very hard to push down

are you sure there is no broken brake lines?
or air in the lines? i would start with replaceing the master cylinder. it might be your brake equalizer thats the thing under the master cylinder it should have 2 lines going to it then 4 lines going out of it.

good luck
hope this helps

Hmmm it could be many things including those that you have stated....
The reason could also be, air in the brake system, low brake fluid, the brake system may just need bleeding...
If your not sure what it is take it to a professional and get it checked out
