Union and Confederacy Colors during the Civil War?

i'm pretty sure that blue represented one side, and red represented the other, but that may be wrong. what color was associated with each side?

blue was for the union, gray for the confederates.

The Union (north) uniforms were blue. Gray is the color associated with the Confederacy (south). At first, however, southern soldiers wore whatever they had. Gray came later as the government of the confederacy was established and solidified. Butternut is another color also associated with the south, but the main one is gray.
