There are a few excellent restaurants right outside of Atlanta in an area called Buckhead. They are:
MAGGIANO'S, mostly Italian food @ www.maggianos.com
MORTON'S, The Steakhouse @ www.mortons.com
ARIA'S, modern American cuisine @
www.aria-atl.com
They're all great -- a bit pricey but worth it -- and hey! you're on vacation -- enjoy!!

This is hard to answer since we don't know your price range or what kind of food you like. But here goes. In downtown ATL, if you like Italian food try Azio's -very expensive but incredible! I recommend the Osso Bucco. If you like sushi or pan-Asian food (still downtown ATL) try the Pacific Rim Bistro. If you just want a great breakfast or sandwich at lunch try the Corner Bakery (it's a chain and not as high). Gordon Biersch is also good, they are a microbrewery - GREAT BEER! I hope this helps.

I don't know about Rome, but in Atlanta some of my favorites are Maggianos (Italian), Atlanta Fish Market (seafood), Ruth's Chris Steak (steakhouse), Eclipse de Luna (tapas), Strip (steak and sushi), and Red Fish Creole (cajun).

When you travel to a place where you think you may never return, you should go to a local place and not a chain. In Rome, I would have to recommend Schroeder's on Broad St. Have the Charlie Dog or the Euro Dog. All there is good.
