Whats wrong with the boy in the Scarlet ibis?

I believe he was born with something wrong in his heart. Probably a hole in his heart. We just finished that story.. it's so very sad but hopeful

The boy died of a broken heart. His brother no longer believed in him, so Doodle gave up hope and therefore died.
I can't explain his other ailments, except by saying some people are slow learners and sickly in health.
