You could use any window cleaner or if you have rubbing alcohol it works well too. Just be sure to put it on a soft cloth rather than directly on the pad to prevent it from leaking into the computer.

Any tape will clean it just fine. I keep a couple rolls of scotch tape in the drawer just for cleaning mine....

One piece of tape, pressed onto the scanner, then peel off. Repeat a few times as needed, and your done!

I have a fingerprint scanner, and the suggested way to clean it is with tape, not a spray......No streaks, and no chances for fluids to leak into the electronics.
